West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) is currently looking to fill two board positions. This is a great opportunity to support a vibrant vital organization in Winnipeg’s West End.

About WCWRC

The WCWRC empowers women, families, and the community to move from where they are to where they want to be.

The centre provides a wide range of programming and services, including food security, housing, skill building, violence recovery and healing. The centre serves a diverse community, including participants who are Indigenous, refugees, immigrants, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and living with disabilities. Our programming is trauma-informed, rooted in harm reduction and centres the experiences of women working towards their own empowerment.

About the board positions

We currently have a strong engaged board with a range of experience and perspectives. We want to continue to grow as the centre continues to grow.

The following positions are open:

  • one board position for a 2-year term.
  • one board development position for a 1-year term, with the option to extend. This position is an opportunity to develop board, community and leadership skills, and comes with additional mentoring and support.

We are seeking women-identified and non-binary individuals who understand and respect what the centre does in the community and value our ways of working. We are working to ensure that our board reflects the community that we serve and we would welcome applications from women who identify as Indigenous, Black, people of colour, refugee or as a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. We also value lived experience and would welcome applications from those who have first-hand knowledge of the challenges our community faces.

Experience working in the community, on a board or working with people is an advantage, but not required. We strive to remove barriers to participation. This includes support for transportation, childcare, accessibility (including internet connection, for example, for online meetings) or other needs.

Board members are expected to participate regularly in one board meeting per month and to sit on at least one board committee. There may also be work required occasionally between board meetings. The total time commitment averages between 5-10 hours per month.

If you are interested in one of these positions, or want more information, please send an email to wcwrcboardinterest@gmail.com.

Thank you
