Immigrant Services

A group of diverse women and a child are gathered together, smiling in front of a wall in the Centre

Our settlement support services for immigrant women and gender diverse people are available through West Central Women’s Resource Centre’s Community Development Team. Our goal is to help individuals and families connect with programs, services and supports that will help them build connections, feel confident and informed, and improve their situation in Canada. We provide information and encouragement to coach participants in advocating for themselves where possible.

Services

Services are open to all newcomer women, including permanent residents, refugee claimants, temporary visas and naturalized citizens. In addition, our Healing Together Program supports women who are permanent residents through one-on-one counselling and group sessions.

Settlement Support

Settling in a new community is a step-by-step process that takes a lot of learning, planning, research and follow-through.  While a Settlement Worker will not be able to help with all of your needs and concerns, they can work with you to:

  • Help you set goals and make plans to reach your goals
  • Provide information, or help you search for information about programs and services that might be available to you to help address your needs
  • Help you apply or register for programs, housing, income supports, subsidies and more; or provide guidance to help you feel confident in doing this for yourself
  • Help you to understand and advocate for yourself when navigating systems
  • Help you to understand your rights and responsibilities at home, at work and in the community

After you came to visit me at my home then things became more light. I was always home and now I do more things. Now I am busy. I am so happy.
