The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. Position Summary: The RSS Team Lead provides day-to-day leadership and support to frontline staff within Residential Support Services. Using trauma-informed, Housing First, harm reduction, and person-centered approaches, they help ensure tenants receive consistent, respectful, and responsive support.

The Team Lead works alongside staff to support relationship building, housing stability, crisis response, de-escalation, and problem-solving. They provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to staff while promoting strong communication, documentation, and teamwork.

The Team Lead assists with the coordination of daily operations, supports program consistency, identifies emerging concerns, and works collaboratively with managers, case workers, and community partners to support positive outcomes for tenants.

The Team Lead participates in the on-call rotation, provides after-hours guidance to staff, and helps ensure safe and effective program operations.

They contribute to a positive team culture and perform other duties as assigned in support of the RSS programs.

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: $27-30/hour, 6% vacation pay, plus a benefits package and matched RSP after 3 months

Shift: 2pm-10 pm

Time requirement: 75h every two weeks

Duties and Responsibilities:

Residential Support Services Team Lead

Participant Support

  • Build positive relationships with tenants and gain an understanding of their strengths, goals, and support needs.
  • Support staff in responding to crisis situations, conflict, and complex tenant needs using trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches.
  • Promote housing stability through participant-centered, harm reduction, and empowerment-based practices.
  • Support staff in navigating community resources, referrals, advocacy, and systems navigation.
  • Assist with complex situations and provide guidance on appropriate interventions and supports.

Staff Support & Leadership

  • Support the day-to-day functioning of the RSS programs by providing coaching, mentorship, and guidance to frontline staff.
  • Promote a respectful, collaborative, and positive team environment.
  • Support staff in developing skills related to crisis intervention, de-escalation, documentation, boundaries, and participant engagement.
  • Identify trends, training needs, and opportunities for program improvement.
  • Work closely with managers to promote consistency, accountability, and quality service delivery across shifts.
  • Assist with onboarding, orientation, and ongoing support of staff.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and provide guidance to staff during urgent situations.

Program Operations

  • Support consistent documentation, incident reporting, and communication across shifts.
  • Assist managers in monitoring program operations and identifying emerging concerns.
  • Promote adherence to program policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with managers, case workers, and community partners to support positive outcomes for tenants.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Strong understanding of Housing First, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and empowerment-based approaches.
  • Excellent crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support staff development.
  • Strong understanding of housing, homelessness, poverty, mental health, substance use, and exploitation-related issues.
  • Ability to work within anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with tenants, staff, and community partners.
  • Strong advocacy and systems navigation skills.
  • Professional, responsible, and discreet when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, SharePoint and electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and support decision-making in complex situations.

Preferred

  • Experience providing leadership, supervision, mentoring, or coaching within a community-based or housing program.
  • Experience working within Housing First, supportive housing, or residential support settings.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba housing systems, EIA, community resources, and service navigation.

Preferred

  • Lived experience of overcoming housing insecurity, homelessness, poverty and/or marginalization strongly preferred
  • Experience working within the non-profit sector
  • Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
  • Experience working collaboratively with community organizations

Working Conditions

  • Afternoons and evenings (2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.), with occasional daytime, overnight, weekend, and on-call hours as required.
  • There is a risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviours and situations.
