Volunteer Opportunity: Coffee & Chat Volunteer – Role Job Description & Expectations


WCWRC’s Settlement Program provides holistic support to newcomers. The Coffee & Chat program offers a supportive environment for participants to practice and learn conversational English skills and meet new people.

The Coffee & Chat program is run out of our Centre located at 640 Ellice Avenue and takes place every week.

Position Summary: 

The Coffee & Chat Volunteer will provide support to the program facilitator and adult participants with educational assistance to improve their basic English conversation skills.



The ECC Volunteer should have the following skills and/or be interested in and able to develop them:

  • Experience teaching adults English is an asset
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience working with adult newcomers and immigrant communities is an asset
  • Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to work with community


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Be kind and respectful to everyone 
  • Work with newcomers to improve their English conversation skills
  • Help participants develop confidence in speaking English
  • Supporting Facilitator with classroom management
  • Provide a nurturing, comfortable, and supportive learning environment that encourages conversation
  • Assist facilitator with program setup and take down program supplies
  • Assist with distributing food


2 hours per week with a 6-month commitment
