The More Than Four Walls Housing First Program is a community program that uses a Housing First approach to reducing homelessness. We assist women, trans people, and their families who are currently experiencing chronic or episodic homelessness to find permanent and stable housing.
Intake into all Housing First programs across Winnipeg is done through the Doorways Centralized Intake program. If you meet the program requirements, Doorways will connect you with More Than Four Walls (or another Housing First program in Winnipeg) for ongoing support. People can self-refer to the Doorways Hub, by either going to 103-181 Higgins Ave or calling 204-925-3830 to book an appointment.
In line with the Housing First model, we believe that:
Housing First: a recovery-oriented approach to ending homelessness that centers on quickly moving people experiencing homelessness into independent and permanent housing and then providing additional supports and services as needed. For more, visit the Homeless Hub.
Chronic homelessness: having spent 6 months or more out of the last 12 months sleeping outdoors, in shelter, or in a place not fit for human habitation.
Episodic homelessness: experiencing 3 separate periods over the last 12 months sleeping outdoors, in shelter, or in a place not fit for human habitation.
