More Than Four Walls

mt4w-graphicThe More Than Four Walls Housing First Program is a community program that uses a Housing First approach to reducing homelessness. We assist women, trans people, and their families who are currently experiencing chronic or episodic homelessness to find permanent and stable housing.

Intake into all Housing First programs across Winnipeg is done through the Doorways Centralized Intake program. If you meet the program requirements, Doorways will connect you with More Than Four Walls (or another Housing First program in Winnipeg) for ongoing support. People can self-refer to the Doorways Hub, by either going to 103-181 Higgins Ave or calling 204-925-3830 to book an appointment.

In line with the Housing First model, we believe that:

  • Housing is a basic human right.
  • Individuals experiencing homelessness should be moved into safe, permanent housing as soon as possible.
  • Choice is important when finding housing.
  • Housing should not depend on treatment status.
  • Individuals are better able to deal with complex life challenges when they have a safe place to live.
  • It is important to provide ongoing support for participants in order to maintain housing and increase self-sufficiency.
