Childminding Services

Happy Sprouts Childminding Service began in 2007 as the Childminding Program of the West Central Women’s Resource Centre. Since then, we have trained over 200 women and gender-diverse people  to provide short-term, quality childcare and created employment opportunities for women and gender-diverse people living in Winnipeg’s Inner City. The program currently offers part-time employment opportunities to 10-15 childminders, and occasional childcare for over 20 hiring agencies.

Happy Sprouts benefits community organizations, learning institutions and others by supplying reliable childminding services for workshops, programming, meetings and other gatherings. The availability of casual childcare assists local residents and families access services, programming and gatherings.

Taking Root Childminding Training is a training and work experience program for women and gender-diverse people who want to work in childcare. Participants complete 2 weeks of free training, then work as part-time childminders with our Happy Sprouts Childminding Services, providing safe, fun and interactive care for children with parents attending programs at WCWRC or one of our hiring agencies.

Training topics include:

  • Childhood Development
  • Childcare Values: Individual Attention, Language Learning, Always Learning
  • Indigenous Teachings and History
  • Inclusion and Diversity
  • Positive Guidance
  • Activity Planning and Emergent Curriculum
  • First Aid
  • Happy Sprouts Childminding Responsibilities and Expectations

After the training, graduates will complete one year of work experience as Happy Sprouts Childminders, and receive ongoing mentorship, training opportunities and support, including help to apply for jobs and pursue other long-term employment and career goals.  

Space is limited! We are looking for women and gender-diverse people who:
